Founded in 2011, BC + A is a bicoastal dance company that constructs worlds of risk and reality by investigating physical and imaginative boundaries. The company, under the direction of Bryn Cohn, engages in projects, on and off the stage, with innovative collaborations in film, fashion, music and television. The company has been met with critical acclaim amongst artists, presenters, press, funders, agencies and audiences throughout the United States.
Described as “groundbreaking, primal, surreal and supernatural,” (Brooklyn Buzz) the company has been presented and toured in premiere venues including Danspace Project in St. Marks Church in-the-Bowery, Bryant Park, Hudson Valley Dance Festival/Broadway Cares/DRA, McCallum Theatre’s Choreography Competition, Gibney, Knickerbocker Theatre (MI), Ailey Citigroup Theater, Jazz at Lincoln Center, 92nd Street Y, 14th Street Y, Triskelion Arts, REDCAT Theatre and Abrons Arts Center.
BC + A has brought their teaching to institutions including California Institute of the Arts, Cornish College of the Arts, City Ballet of Los Angeles, Velocity Dance Center, Nazareth College, Rutgers University, Chop Shop Dance Festival and Peridance. The company collaborates on site–specific experiences with art galleries and fashion organizations including Artists & Fleas, Tribeca Art Night, Foley Gallery, Castle Fitzjohns and Bene Rialto. Their films have been finalists in the Utah Dance Film Festival and First Fridays in Washington, DC.
BC + A has received awards and funding including from Kaatsbaan, The Alfred Z Soloman Charitable Trust, SILO Residency through DanceNOW and The Field. The company was named Inception to Exhibition’s Fan Favorite and won a fully produced performance. BC + A was represented in The Gallery Roster at Pentacle Danceworks Inc. The company has been invited to perform in Bryant Park Presents, Wassaic, ReverbDance, Chop Shop (Seattle) WestFest, DanceNOW, Split Bill Series, Stuffed, Pentacle’s Fall Farther, Upstart, Underexposed, Dumbo and Young Choreographers dance festivals among others.
